Sachs Displays 1930 Ford Cruiser at AutoRama
TROY, Mich., Feb. 22 The "Sachs Cruiser" -- a pet project
that became a labor of love for a group of engineers at Sachs Automotive of
America -- will be on display February 23-25, 2001 at AutoRama at Cobo Center
in Detroit.
Sachs employees stayed "after school" last summer to prepare the company's
two-door 1930 Ford sedan for a debut appearance in the annual Woodward Dream
Cruise. For Brian Saylor, Shawn Turner and Pete Tambeau, the Sachs Cruiser
presented a chance to showcase Sachs technology while indulging a shared
passion. The three lead a team of die-hard car buffs who worked long hours
behind the company's headquarters in Troy to make their project a success.
Sporting 1997 Dodge Viper Blue Metallic Pearl paint by C&T (Kurt Bianchi)
of Warren, with graphics by Upper Level, the Cruiser has a custom tube frame
and a Chevy 350 twin turbo engine with a Chevy 400 turbo transmission. The
interior features custom leather on Recaro seats. Wheels are 17 x 7.5 chrome
by Ensure with 215/50-17 Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires on the front; 255/55-17
Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires on the rear.
Underneath the vehicle is a Kugel stainless independent front suspension
with Sachs 45mm monotube dampers with custom coil-over adjustable spring-seats
and Eibach springs; in the rear, a Corvette independent rear suspension with
Sachs 45mm monotube dampers with custom coil-over adjustable spring-seats and
Eibach springs.
Brian Saylor voices the team's pride, saying "The Sachs Cruiser is a one-
of-a-kind vehicle. It generated lots of attention during the Dream Cruise and
should be a standout at AutoRama."
