Pontiac Asks, "What Color Is Your Vibe?"

DETROIT - Pontiac is tapping into the creative energy of young buyers by giving them the opportunity to be a color consultant and name all eight of the excitement division's newest car's colors. The all-new Pontiac Vibe, coming to dealerships in early 2002, is not your typical new car nor is the "What Color is Your Vibe?" a typical marketing campaign.

Consumers are invited to log onto www.pontiac.com/colormyvibe, to submit names for the Vibe's exterior colors beginning June 6. Once on the site, would be designers can view the eight colors that will be available on the Vibe (red, green, gray, blue, dark red, white, silver and black) and then submit a creative name for any or all of the colors. Pontiac will review every submission and narrow the list to five names per color. Those "finalist" colors will be posted on the Pontiac website where visitors will be able to vote for their favorite names. The colors with the most votes will become Vibe's colors.

"Using the Web as the building block of the 'What Color Is Your Vibe?' sweepstakes allows us to interact with young buyers in a way that's customer-focused, relevant and fun," said Craig Bierley, Vibe brand manager. "In the process, we are initiating Vibe's branding message of individual self-expression, and providing young people with an opportunity to re-think Pontiac."

Upon submission of the color names, visitors are asked to select a grand prize that best fits their lifestyle and personality. Prize choices include:

  2. Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel Package - Las Vegas, Nevada
  3. Greek Islands Cruise Package - Greece & Turkey
  4. Hotel and Theatre Package - New York City, New York
  5. Cordon Bleu Cooking Class Package - Paris, France
  6. Jet Set Package - Ibiza, Spain
  7. Surfin' the Columbia River Gorge Package - Hood River, Oregon
  8. Panasonic Home Entertainment Package

Participants will be directed to the "What Color Is Your Vibe?" site by Online advertising and events tied to the Vans Warped Tour (www.warpedtour.com).

Conceived in 1995, the tour is a day long festival that includes extreme sports in conjunction with both grassroots and national music acts. Kicking off in Phoenix, Ariz., on June 22 and ending in Pontiac, Mich., on August 12, the 42-city tour generates more than 450,000 attendees. At each tour venue, Pontiac Vibe, the official automotive sponsor, will display two vehicles along with information and entry forms to enter the color contest.

In addition, Pontiac will donate $1 for each entry submission to My Friend's Place. Since 1988, the organization has been helping homeless youths to empower themselves and take responsibility for their lives. Today, hundreds visit the Los Angeles resource center every week.

Color name submissions will be accepted through August 23. The top five names for each color will be posted the following week. Enthusiasts who have submitted names, along with their friends, will be invited to return to the site and vote for their favorite color name. Winners will be announced shortly after.
