Southern California Average Gas Prices Stay Above $2
LOS ANGELES--June 12, 2001--Average gas prices for Southern California, while slightly down from record levels, remain above the $2 per gallon mark, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California's monthly Fuel Gauge report.The Southern California average price for regular unleaded fuel is $2.01, a one-cent increase over the prior month's price of $2 per gallon. While higher than a month ago, the average price is down from peak prices of about two weeks ago when the average price in Southern California was $2.03 per gallon. The state average is unchanged compared with last month at $2 per gallon.
The lowest average price in the state is Fresno, where the regular gas can be purchased for $1.84 a gallon.
The highest average price for regular in the state and the nation is shared by Blythe and San Francisco at $2.17 per gallon. The price in Blythe is unchanged from a month ago, while the average in San Francisco is up 4 cents from a month ago. Las Vegas is down three cents to $1.79 per gallon during the same time period.
Nationally, the average for regular unleaded fell 6 cents to $1.66. The lowest statewide average price in the nation is in Georgia, where the price of gasoline averages $1.46 per gallon, also a six- cent drop from the prior month
"Gasoline inventories are up, production is up and wholesale prices in California are down 40 cents per gallon over the past two months," said Jeffrey Spring, Auto Club spokesman. "It was expected that retail prices would follow soon. Motorists may have to be a little more patient to see the wholesale drop reflected at the pump."
