Cummins Westport announces natural gas engines for trucks and buses

VANCOUVER, Sept. 10 - Cummins Westport Inc., a joint venture
company owned by Cummins Inc. of Columbus, Indiana and Westport
Innovations Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia, today disclosed
plans for a complete range of low-emissions natural gas engines which will
offer a natural gas option for all commercial truck and bus fleets.

Cummins Westport, which has three engine platforms in production or in
customer trials, plans to add two more platforms to complete its product
range. When complete, the range of Cummins Westport engines will parallel the
diesel vehicle engine range offered by Cummins.

The first of the new platforms under development is a natural gas version
of the Cummins 8.9 liter L diesel. Cummins Westport has scheduled this 300
horsepower natural gas engine for introduction in late 2002. The other new
platform, with up to 350 horsepower, is a natural gas version of the Cummins
10.8 liter ISM diesel and is scheduled to be introduced in 2004.

Cummins Westport already offers a 5.9 litre natural gas engine with up to
230 horsepower and an 8.3 litre natural gas engine with up to 280 horsepower.
A 15 litre, 400 horsepower engine is undergoing customer trials, with
commercial production expected in 2003.

"By sharing technology from our existing products, Cummins Westport will
keep development expenses low while widening our market coverage
significantly," said Guff Muench, President and Chief Executive Officer of
Cummins Westport Inc. "These five vehicle engines, together with our natural
gas high horsepower engines, represent the products behind Cummins Westport's
targeted annual sales of 10,000 engines for 2004."
