Covansys Teams With Tennessee To Simplify Motor Vehicle Registration

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--Oct. 9, 2001--

$14.2 Million Contract to Provide Internet Capabilities for Millions of Drivers

Covansys, a global technology services company, today announced that it has been selected by the State of Tennessee to construct and implement the Titling and Registration Users System for Tennessee (TRUST). The TRUST project is valued at $14.2 million.
TRUST is a state-of-the-art online system designed to give Tennessee drivers Internet access for registering and licensing their motor vehicles. The project will be implemented in two phases and will utilize Covansys' technology development centers in the U.S. and overseas to complete the project. The entire project is scheduled for completion by December 2003.
The goal of the new system, as stated in the RFP, is "to pursue and achieve excellence in services offered through our motor vehicle related divisions." More specifically, it supports their goal "to maintain a well organized, effective, efficient and fiscally responsible department."
The system will be designed to accommodate six million plate renewals per year. Citizens will first be able to access the information by November 2002. The new system will be placed in all 95 counties, giving the 900 users and county clerks greater capabilities when working with their customers.
The TRUST system will improve titling and registration processes for the state and its citizens through an innovative Web-based interface, which provides the ability to renew auto registrations on the Internet. The new system will replace current aging systems, providing greater functionality and flexibility in automotive titling and registration, deterring fraud and improving law enforcement capabilities.
"We are pleased to be working with the State of Tennessee in implementing a state-of-the-art system that will enrich titling and registration processes for both the State and the taxpayers," said Arvind Malhotra, Covansys' public sector practice executive. "The Tennessee TRUST project win firmly positions Covansys as a recognized player in the registration technology market."
For the last 16 years, Covansys has provided public sector solutions to more than 25 states in the areas of health and human services, transportation, public retirement systems, labor and tax and revenue systems. Covansys derives more than 20 percent of its current annual revenues from state and local government customers.
