GM Leads The Parade!

FOR RELEASE: November 20, 2001

GM Leads America's Thanksgiving Parade®

Detroit, Mich.- General Motors will participate in America's Thanksgiving Parade® by sponsoring a special float with a patriotic theme. GM volunteers and 50 firefighters and police officers will march alongside the float, which will lead the parade.

This special tribute will feature a giant American flag escorted down the parade route. Its escorts will include local heroes - firefighters and police officers from the community. Singer Lee Greenwood will be featured on a Chevrolet Avalanche as part of the leading float. Mr. Greenwood will sing his signature song, "God Bless the USA". The entire parade will be broadcast on WDIV, with portions broadcast nationally on CBS.

GM employees will accompany the float wearing patriotic costumes and jackets. Many of them have volunteered in the past and are very excited to march side by side with the firefighters and police officers this year. "It has been our company and employees' tradition to be part of the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade. We are extremely honored to lead the parade with a special, patriotic salute to our country and community," said GM Foundation Vice Chair and Executive Director Washington Office and Global Community Relations, Debbie Dingell.
