Auto Club: Thanksgiving Travelers Feasted On Falling Gasoline Prices
LOS ANGELES--Nov. 22, 2001--Southern California motorists are receiving a Thanksgiving treat in the form of falling gas prices this holiday weekend. For the 10th consecutive week the prices of fuel declined throughout the reporting area, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by the Automobile Club of Southern California. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
Currently, the average price of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area is $1.230 per gallon. This is 4.4 cents lower than last Friday and nearly 45 cents below last year's price. In San Diego, the price is 4 cents lower than last week's level. Motorists in the central coast are enjoying an average that's 7.7 cents below last Friday's price.
"Falling prices are gravy for Thanksgiving travelers this year," said Auto Club spokesperson Jeffrey Spring. "Normally gasoline prices go up during holiday periods, but this is one of the rare times when motorists are getting a holiday price break. The lower prices may encourage people who were undecided about weekend travel to get in their vehicles and take a trip."
