All I Want for Christmas is...TIRES?

December 6, 2001

Sacramento - Most of us have heard so much banter about tires for the last year that we're ready to move to roller blades for transport. But Canadians, well they love tires so much that 18% of them have placed tires on their Christmas wish list.

That's according to Dunlop Tire who has just completed its first, but sure to become annual, tire poll. Conducted by Decima Research, the company polled by telephone 2,023 adult Canadians asking them if they would like to receive a set of tires as a gift for Christmas. Dunlop says 18% said they would "squeal with delight" if someone gave them tires for Christmas. However, 32% of the respondents said they would "smile politely," and 28% said they would give the individual that gave them tires about 30 seconds to produce the real gift. The other 5% would "initiate legal proceedings."

The most dangerous idea that came out of this poll affair was from Jane Wilcox, director of public relations for Dunlop in Canada. Jane says, "While tires are typically most popular around the change of seasons, this poll suggests that maybe we should start marketing them as great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries or even Valentine's Day."
