DaimlerChrysler Asks Court to Halt Hummer H2
The Associated Press reported that DaimlerChrysler AG asked a federal judge to halt production of General Motors Corp.'s new Hummer H2 until a court decides a trademark dispute over the design of the vehicle's grille.
The automakers sued one another last February, each claiming the seven-slot grille design was rightfully theirs.
A trial is set for December. DaimlerChrysler, which filed its request for a temporary injunction on Tuesday, contends the H2's grille infringes on the trademark of the 50-year-old Jeep design.(See Above-What do you think?)
GM, which acquired the brand name Hummer from South Bend-based AM General in December 1999, contends AM General received a trademark for the grille in 1996.
Editors Note: The H2's big and sturdy looking "chrome" grill is made of PLASTIC...when I asked GM execs why?, I was first told that Chrome Plating is bad for our environment...after further digging I was told that it would cost about 5x as much for a real chrome grill...so what I says...a big strong great looking $50 Grand plus vehicle deserves a real chrome grill.
