The Chrome Top 10 rankings are compiled from vehicle configurations captured through Chrome's Web-based configuration and pricing tool, Chrome Carbook(TM), which is accessible from more than 1,500 websites. The information captured on Chrome's web servers shows which vehicle configurations consumers are considering, including the vehicle's make, model, transmission, option and color preferences.
This rich store of real-time, regional consumer vehicle preferences can be mined by auto manufacturers and supply chain vendors to help them more accurately predict factory and inventory needs.
"Traditional forecasts are predicated on historical sales data and statistical patterns," said Dave Mingle, Chrome President and COO. "Incorporating information on what consumers are considering today, enables manufacturers and suppliers to be more resilient to changes in demand."
