OnStar Expands Safety, Security And Personal Calling Services Across GM 2003 Lineup

TROY, MI. - OnStar announced today that its safety, security and Personal Calling wireless communications services will be available on more 2003 General Motors models and more versions within the GM lineup. New models for 2003 equipped for OnStar services include the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire compacts, the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans, and the rugged new H2 sport utility vehicle from HUMMER.

OnStar offers added peace of mind and customer satisfaction on a growing list of GM products - from small cars to light duty trucks to luxury vehicles."

Since launching in fall 1996, OnStar has had about 16 million interactions with subscribers and is touching customers in every county in the U.S. and all provinces of Canada. On a monthly basis, OnStar:

  • Answers 200,000 routing calls
  • Answers 14,250 roadside assistance requests
  • Performs 15,000 door unlocks
  • Responds to 500 air bag deployments
  • Responds to 375 stolen vehicle location requests

"With more than two million subscribers, OnStar has proven to be a valuable safety and security service for all vehicle-buying demographics," said Chet Huber, president of OnStar. " We're focused on answering the GM customer's call 24/7 three hundred sixty five days a year and providing them with the peace of mind that comes with the OnStar brand."

OnStar is available on all Cadillacs, Buicks, Saabs and Saturns, all GM minivans and sport utilities, and an extensive range of midsize sedans from Chevrolet, Pontiac and Oldsmobile. In all, OnStar services will be offered on 44 of 53 GM models in 2003:

Cadillac - CTS, DeVille, Escalade, Escalade EXT, Seville
Chevrolet - Avalanche, Cavalier, Express, Impala, Monte Carlo, Silverado,

GMC - Envoy, Envoy XL, Savana, Sierra, Sierra Denali, Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL, Yukon XL Denali,

Pontiac - Aztek, Bonneville, Grand Prix, Montana, Sunfire
Saab - 9-3, 9-5

Depending on the GM model, OnStar is standard, part of a preferred equipment group or convenience package, or a $695 individual option, and includes a year of Safe & Sound service. (Cadillac buyers, except CTS, receive a year of Directions & Connections service). After the first year, subscribers can renew the Safe & Sound service for $16.95 a month, or sign up for the Directions & Connections package for $34.95 a month. For those who also want a personal concierge, a luxury service package is available.

OnStar will now be offered on more trim levels within models and every 2003 vehicle equipped with OnStar has OnStar Personal Calling capability, along with access to Web-based features such as location-based traffic and weather information.
