AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch; Gas Prices Edge Downward

    HOUSTON--June 21, 2002--Fuel prices decline as the Fourth of July holiday draws near, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
    Gasoline prices dropped in all major Texas cities last week, with the statewide average for regular self-serve at $1.32 a gallon, down a penny. Motorists in San Antonio are paying an average of $1.26 a gallon. Corpus Christi is at $1.27 a gallon, with the Austin-San Marcos area paying a penny more at $1.28 a gallon. Falling mid-way on the price scale is Houston at $1.33 a gallon. In Fort Worth, it's $1.34 a gallon. Dallas tops the list at $1.35 a gallon.
    "Motorists can expect to see these low summer fuel prices through the Fourth of July holiday," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "Prices should remain stable unless demand begins to outstrip supply or tensions in the Middle East affect the flow of supply."
