AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Slight Increase At the Pumps for Labor Day

HOUSTON--Aug. 30, 2002--As motorists prepare to travel for the Labor Day holiday, they'll see slightly higher prices at the pumps, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
The statewide average price for regular self-serve is $1.33 -- up a penny since last week. The Austin - San Marcos area has the least expensive fuel at $1.279 a gallon, up 1.4 cents since a week ago -- followed by San Antonio at $1.286 a gallon, up 1.9 cents. Corpus Christi posted the biggest increase at $1.308, up nearly 4 cents. Dallas tops the list again with the most expensive gas in Texas at $1.340 a gallon, up 0.4 cent.
"Although motorists are paying slightly higher prices this week compared to last week, the current statewide average of $1.33 a gallon is still two cents less than last year's average of $1.35 a gallon," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "However, the slight increase in prices is not expected to affect travel plans for the holiday weekend."
    Average prices as of 12:01 a.m., Aug. 30, 2002:
