CYPRESS, Calif., Aug. 30 -- Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. (MMSA) today announced suggested retail pricing for the all-new 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander entry-level SUV and the updated 2003 Mitsubishi Montero full-size SUV.

"Outlander will give entry-SUV buyers a choice that is hip, cool and thoroughly Mitsubishi in its youthful attitude, styling and performance," said Greg O'Neill, MMSA president and COO. "Starting under $18,000, Outlander offers the ideal package for people that require flexibility but still demand a vehicle that is fun to drive."

The 2003 Outlander will arrive in dealer showrooms in October and will be available with front-wheel or full-time all-wheel-drive. Consumers can choose from two unique trim levels. The Outlander LS serves as a basic entry-level SUV alternative to the traditional five-passenger sedan. The Outlander XLS incorporates sportier premium appointments with upgraded features and attitude. All models are powered by a Mitsubishi 2.4 liter, SOHC 16-valve, 4-cylinder engine that provides 140 horsepower and 157 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Outlander will range from a suggested base price of $17,997 to a fully-loaded suggested price of $23,390. All Outlanders will feature a 4-speed Sportronic(TM) transmission. Available equipment includes 180-watt Mitsubishi/Infinity CD audio system with six speakers, 16-inch alloy wheels, heated leather seating surfaces and auto-dimming mirror with compass and temperature display.

For 2003, Montero has been enhanced with several styling and mechanical refinements. These revisions add to the Montero's reputation for off-road capability, interior versatility, and stylish luxury. Externally, the 2003 Montero features a re-styled grille, front fascia and new headlights. The vehicle's new side-cladding creates a cleaner, sleeker look and complements the integrated side steps. Mechanically, Montero receives a new 3.8 liter V6 engine (horsepower rated at 215 @ 5500 and torque is 248 @ 3250) and Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC) which enhance performance on and off-road.

The Montero will range from a suggested base price of $32,487 to a fully- loaded suggested price of $37,797. The seven passenger vehicle comes equipped with a 5-speed Sportronic(TM) / Active Trac(TM) transmission. Available equipment includes leather seating surfaces, power sunroof with tilt-feature, 315-watt Mitsubishi/Infinity CD audio system with seven speakers, and rear air conditioning and heating with mid-cabin controls.
