New President For Engine Company

DETROIT, Sept. 4 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) announced the appointment of J. James (Jim) Morrow to President, effective immediately.

"Jim has exhibited proven leadership skills, solid manufacturing experience and a personal commitment to help guide DDC. His diverse background will continue to be beneficial to our business and enhance our efforts to strengthen DDC's position in new and existing markets," said Dr. Albert Kirchmann, Vice President of Business Planning and CFO for DaimlerChrysler Powersystems.

Prior to his appointment, Jim was Senior Vice President - Aftermarket Sales and Remanufacturing and President - Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing Corporation. The Remanufacturing Corporation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Detroit Diesel. Under Morrow's guidance, operating profit improved for this business unit by a factor of five and return on assets tripled.

Morrow joined Detroit Diesel in 1967 and held several positions within the materials management and manufacturing areas before becoming director of industrial engineering in 1979. He was the superintendent of machining and became plant manager in 1985 where he was responsible for all manufacturing operations at Detroit Diesel's 3 million sq. ft. facility including assembly, machining operations maintenance and manufacturing support for engine productions. Morrow was named to a vice president position in 1995.

In January of 1997, he was appointed Vice President - Two-Cycle Product and Remanufacturing. He was promoted in 1998 to Senior Vice President - Aftermarket Sales and Remanufacturing and, in June, he received the additional responsibility of President of Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing Corporation.

Morrow earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Michigan State University in 1965 and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University in 1971. He maintains a number of affiliations including serving on the Board of Techform Corporation, an automotive parts supplier, member of the Dean's Advisory Board at Purdue University's School of Technology, member of the Redford Chamber of Commerce, Wayne County Workforce Development Board, SAE Vision 2000 Steering Committee and the American Institute of Industrial Engineers.
