2000-02 Cadillac DeVille Recalled
September 10, 2002General Motors Announces A Recall Of Cadillac DeVilles
DETROIT - General Motors today announced a voluntary recall of approximately 280,000 model years 2000-02 Cadillac DeVille passenger cars.
There have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to this condition.
During internal testing, GM discovered that some vehicles had seat belt pretensioners, in the front driver and passenger seats, that did not perform properly . There is a possibility that the retractors may not remain locked up when the pretensioner is activated in moderate to severe crashes.
Pretensioners help the safety belts reduce a person's forward movement in a moderate to severe frontal crash.
Only DeVilles built between May 1999 and May 2002 are affected by this condition.
GM will ask owners of these vehicles to bring them in to their Cadillac dealers for repair. These repairs will be performed at no cost to the customers.
