AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Slight Movement at the Pumps

HOUSTON--Sept. 20, 2002--After holding steady for the past several weeks, the statewide average price of regular, self-serve gasoline climbed slightly, according to the Weekend Gas Watch, compiled by AAA Texas. The Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for motoring trips.
The Texas' average is $1.34, up a penny compared to last week. Corpus Christi showed the biggest increase of nearly 3 cents a gallon to $1.314. The smallest jump occurred in San Antonio, which also has the least expensive fuel in the state at $1.290 a gallon, up a tenth of a cent from the week before. The Austin-San Marcos area went up nearly 2 cents to 1.300 a gallon. Again, Dallas tops the list with the most expensive fuel in the state at $1.344 a gallon, up 0.9 cent.
"The large inventory of gasoline in the United States is preventing the latest political and military news from having an impact on consumers at the pump," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "However, if any action is taken against Iraq that may lead to supply shortages which could push prices upward."
