Flexcar Supports Rideshare Week With Special Promotion

    SEATTLE--Oct. 14, 2002--

Reduces membership fee for Rideshare participants, allowing them to have a car at the office without driving to the office

Flexcar, the nation's oldest and largest car-sharing company today announced a special promotion in conjunction with Rideshare Week -- $15 off the normal $25 application fee.
More than 30 of Flexcar's region-wide 75 vehicles are located at or near transit centers and office buildings in downtown Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Bremerton and Bainbridge Island, making it possible for Rideshare participants to leave their car at home, yet still be able to access a car during the day for business meetings, personal errands or emergencies.
To receive the discount, participants must enter "rideshare" in the promo code field on Flexcar's online application, available at www.flexcar.com.
Flexcar's innovative program provides members with access to a fleet of environmentally friendly vehicles, including gas-electric hybrids and electric cars, located throughout the Puget Sound region. Members reserve the vehicles for hourly use with Flexcar covering the cost of the car, gas, parking, insurance and maintenance. Members can pay an hourly ($3.50 per hour, plus $.90 per mile) or monthly rate (as low as $35 for five hours and/or 50 miles) for use of the vehicles. Flexcar does not require security deposits or dues to participate in its program. Flexcar now operates car-sharing programs for more than 7,500 members in more than a dozen cities and counties in five states and the District of Columbia.
"One of the biggest obstacles for getting people to choose a non-drive-alone method to work is the fear that they might need their car during the day," said William del Valle, general manager of Flexcar's Seattle office. "Flexcar removes that obstacle by offering hourly access to a large number of cars located in the buildings at or near where they work. Our business memberships are increasing dramatically as people look for ways to beat the commute congestion but still allow them to get around town."
Following a successful European model, Flexcar launched its Seattle operations in 2000, and has since won numerous awards and commendations for its program that reduces congestion, air pollution and energy use, while increasing use of public transportation and contributing to sustainable communities. Used in conjunction with public transit, car/vanpools and walking/biking, car-sharing helps individuals meet their transportation needs in an economic and environmentally responsible manner, giving them the freedom of car ownership without the associated cost and hassles.
