GM BuyPower.com Rated More Useful Than Other OEM Sites

DETROIT - Consumers rated General Motors online shopping and buying service, GM BuyPower.com, more useful than other manufacturer Web sites in the 2002 J.D. Power and Associates New Autoshopper.com Studysm.

This study notes that while independent, third-party Web sites continue to lead the automotive Internet marketplace, traffic at these sites has leveled off, and more consumers than ever before are visiting manufacturer and dealer sites.

Consumers used GM BuyPower.com to conduct 2.2 million searches of dealer inventory in September alone, according to GM data. GM tracking shows that GM BuyPower.com has consistently logged more than 1.5 million site visits per month during 2002, up 263% from the monthly average in 1999, the year the service was launched. This year, GM BuyPower.com has set records in July, August and September regarding the number of sales leads generated for GM BuyPower dealers, up 283% from the same period in 2001.

More than 74 percent of GM's approximately 7,500 U.S. dealers are active on GM BuyPower. Any GM dealership can participate, provided it agrees to certain customer-treatment standards, such as appointing and maintaining at least one trained and certified GM BuyPower manager to serve as an interface for the consumer on the Web site and the dealership.

"GM BuyPower.com is a perfect example of how GM is integrating our online and offline marketing efforts to ensure that consumers have a consistent, high-quality experience, whether they're shopping from home from their personal computers or visiting a dealership to take a test-drive," said Katherine J. Benoit, executive director of General Motors Customer Network.

"The results we are seeing in terms of customer satisfaction and site traffic indicate we're on the right track and that we're providing a valuable service for our customers and our dealers," Benoit said.
