"Compared to last month, demand for gasoline is up by about 9 percent," said Auto Club spokesperson Carol Thorp. "Wholesale prices increased in recent weeks, but retail prices held steady. Now retail prices are catching up with the wholesale side. Also, many analysts say that the current price increase also has `built into it' potential disruption due to an Iraqi conflict."
