GM - Passionate Car Guys and Gals

CHICAGO February 12, 2003; Delivering further evidence of its commitment to create products that inspire passion, General Motors is introducing two new high-performance SS models for its Chevrolet brand at the 2003 Chicago Auto Show. GM's presence at the auto show also hints at the future with innovative concept vehicles that illustrate the breadth and depth of current creative thinking at the world's largest automobile manufacturer.

"GM is a company on the move, thanks to a renewed focus on product," said Gary L. Cowger, president of GM North America. "The 2004 Chevrolet Impala SS and Monte Carlo Supercharged SS are the latest examples of how we are bringing back great performance and design to GM's nameplates. At the same time, our concept vehicles show how we are exploring the future of personal transportation within the scope of our brands' unique personalities."

Impala SS, the name that began Chevrolet's legendary SS bloodline, will be a fun-to-drive sport sedan that builds on Chevrolet's heritage of building attainable performance vehicles for enthusiasts. Monte Carlo Supercharged SS takes performance to a level appropriate for the winningest nameplate in NASCAR Winston Cup history. Both Impala SS and Monte Carlo Supercharged SS feature a supercharged, 240-horsepower V-6 along with beefed-up suspensions, high-performance speed-rated tires, 17-inch diamond-cut cast aluminum wheels and unique styling cues.

Chevrolet also is displaying a potential future interpretation of its Super Sport heritage with the Chevy SS concept. The 430-horsepower Chevy SS is a contemporary four-door sport sedan with seating for five, powered by a 6.0-liter V-8 engine.

In addition to the Chevy SS, GM is showing off four more concept vehicles that are unique expressions of style, functionality and innovation. Here's a brief description of these GM concepts:

  • Cadillac Sixteen is a dramatic ultra-luxury super sedan for GM's flagship brand. The Sixteen features Cadillac's signature bold styling and a V-16 engine that generates 1000 horsepower, with GM's Displacement on Demand technology enabling increased fuel efficiency in four-cylinder and eight-cylinder modes.
  • Buick Centieme, helping Buick mark its 100th anniversary this year, offers a distinctive vision of beauty and grace. With its luxurious cabin and twin-turbocharged V-6, Centieme is a premium vehicle that combines the best features of a sedan and SUV with graceful execution.
  • The Pontiac G6 previews Pontiac's direction of blending aggressive, athletic styling with a powerful and responsive driving experience. The four-door sedan features a 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6, all-wheel drive and four-wheel independent suspension as part of its total performance package.
  • For truck enthusiasts, Chevrolet Cheyenne breaks new ground in both styling and also cargo-carrying capability. Its cargo-box area features dual bed-access doors, and hidden storage bins beneath the floor and inside the sidewalls. The tailgate opens fully in the traditional manner, or half opens for loading small cargo or to create a work shelf.
