Hummers to Invade South Florida ICGF-Schwarzenegger In The Lead

FOR RELEASE: February 13, 2003

GM, HUMMER Support South Florida Inner-City Games

MIAMI, FL – HUMMER and General Motors (GM) are bringing a caravan of HUMMER H2s to South Florida to support the launch of the newest HUMMER and Inner-City Games Foundation (ICGF), chaired by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

GM will be offering Miami media the chance to experience the new H2 on and off-road, meet Arnold Schwarzenegger and witness the collaboration between HUMMER and ICGF.

HUMMER, a division of GM, is the national sponsor of the ICGF and has committed $13 million in cash and H2 vehicle donations through the GM Foundation for ICGF fundraising as part of GM’s global commitment to reaching youth and diversity audiences.

“HUMMERs are famous for overcoming great obstacles off-road. Inner-City Games Foundation makes a great partner for HUMMER as an organization dedicated to giving kids the chance to overcome personal obstacles through positive activities like athletics and the arts,” said Mike DiGiovanni, HUMMER general manager.

GM is committed to developing and delivering innovative products and services that meet the needs of a diverse audience. The company produces more cars and trucks that appeal to a wide range of people than any other automobile company in the world.

“At HUMMER our customers can’t be labeled by color, gender or creed. HUMMER is a mindset. A mindset of daring, self-assured, entrepreneurial people who see HUMMER as being a reflection of themselves - unique,” said Randy Foutch, HUMMER marketing analyst. This unique appeal spans ethnic groups. Minority buyers compromise over 20 percent of H2 sales with Hispanics compromising 10 percent of all purchasers.

GM’s diversity commitment extends beyond its product to the dealers interfacing with its consumers. The new HUMMER dealer network, established in 2002, has 151 dealers in North America. Women and minorities own 13% of HUMMER dealerships, making it one of the most diverse automotive dealer networks in America.

In addition to ICGF, the GM Foundation is also sponsoring the GM School Book Giveaway designed to provide more than $14,000 in books to schools across the U.S. Today in Miami Beach, Nautilus Middle School, an ICGF participant, received a $500 donation for books from the GM Foundation presented by Lorna Utley, president of the GM Foundation and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The GM Foundation, established in 1976 and funded entirely by GM, administers GM’s philanthropic programs. In 2001, GM and GM Foundation contributed more than $82 million to worthwhile causes around the world.
