Chrysler Group's Dieter Zetsche Named Michiganian of the Year

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 6, 2003 -- Dr. Dieter Zetsche, President and CEO of the Chrysler Group, has been named one of 12 "Michiganians of the Year 2002" by The Detroit News. The award is presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the communities of Metro Detroit and the State of Michigan.

Zetsche is responsible for the worldwide operations of Chrysler, Jeep(R) and Dodge. He is also a member of the DaimlerChrysler AG Board of Management.

Since assuming the helm of the Chrysler Group in 2000, Zetsche has become active with many Detroit-area civic and community-based organizations. He serves on the boards of Detroit Renaissance, the Greater Downtown Partnership, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) and the Economic Alliance for Michigan, and is chairman of the Detroit Economic Club. A few weeks ago, Zetsche chaired the NAACP's Freedom Fund Dinner, the largest charity dinner in the U.S.

Since 1978 more than 280 "Michiganians" have been honored for their contributions to the State of Michigan and Metro Detroit. A recent article in The Detroit News described the honorees as "both ordinary and exalted (citizens) who have accomplished the remarkable." Further, Zetsche was described as a compassionate leader. "His business and his life are driven by his humble heart," the article stated.

The Michiganian of the Year Award will be presented tonight during a ceremony in Southfield, Michigan.
