Chrysler Group Reports U.S. June Sales Up 6%

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 2003; Chrysler Group reported sales of 198,962 units in June, a six percent increase compared to June 2002, calculated on a day-rate basis.

The all-new Chrysler Pacifica recorded sales of 6,642 units in June 2003, more than double the total in May 2003 when 2,471 vehicles were sold.

"It's no surprise to us that Chrysler Pacifica sales are accelerating as more and more customers become aware of this great vehicle," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales.

Chrysler Crossfire, the all-new sports coupe which blends American design and German engineering, sold 275 units in June, its first month of sales.

"Consumer and dealer reaction to the Chrysler Crossfire has been outstanding," said Dilts. "To sell nearly 300 Crossfires prior to the July 7 marketing launch is a great start."

Dodge Ram pickup trucks were Chrysler Group's top seller, with sales of 41,115 units in June. Ram sales set an all-time record for June, and were up 31 percent compared to June 2002, when 34,053 Ram trucks were sold.

Dodge Durango sales were also up in June, with a total of 9,669 units, an increase of 10 percent over last year when 9,533 vehicles were sold. As a result of the Durango and Ram sales increases, total Dodge truck sales were up eight percent in June 2003.

The Jeep® Wrangler, with 6,599 units sold, was up seven percent, compared to June 2002 when 6,690 vehicles were sold. Jeep Grand Cherokee reported sales of 15,099 units for the month, a one percent increase compared to year-earlier levels.

"The economic environment is trending upward," said Dilts. "Auto industry fundamentals are improving, interest rates are at all-time lows, the numbers from Wall Street are heading north, and consumer confidence is on the rise. Plus, the affordability index is shaping up to be the best in the past 25 years. All this creates great opportunities for consumers as we head into the remaining two months of the Chrysler Group's 'Summer Sales Drive.'"

The national Summer Sales Drive began June 2. The campaign was a key factor in the Chrysler Group sales performance in the month, said Dilts.

"The campaign got us a bigger share of voice in the marketplace and proved to consumers that Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge have the 'Best Values in America,'" said Dilts. "By that we mean our great products, our seven-year, 70,000-mile fully transferable powertrain warranty and very competitive incentives. That message stays in place through the summer."

Additional June sales highlights, compared to the same month last year:

  • Chrysler Concorde recorded sales of 3,228 units, up 23 percent
  • Dodge Stratus sales totaled 11,653 units, up 50 percent
  • Chrysler Group finished the month with 518,573 units of inventory, or a 63-day supply, in line with industry standards.
