New York Students Awarded With Visit to Porsche Factory

ATLANTA, July 9 -- Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, played host-for-a-day to a group of students from New York. 30 students, between the ages of 16 and 18, together with their supervisors, participated in a tour of the Porsche plant in Zuffenhausen, the "birthplace" of the 911 and Boxster sports cars. The program included a walk-through of the production area, a visit to the Porsche Museum and a trip to the Training Center.

The visit took place as part of an initiative known as "The Bridge New York - Berlin", which German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroder, together with German companies, initiated last year as a response to the terrorist attack of September 11. This long-term project, which is also being actively supported by Porsche AG, is geared toward fostering mutual tolerance and international understanding between German and American youth. It is targeted to students from New York who have never travelled abroad. The initiative bears the cost of inviting them to Germany, where they are organized into several groups. In the course of a two-week round trip, the students are introduced to the history, culture, political system and economy of the Federal Republic of Germany. By housing the guests with German families, they are assured a wide range of personal contacts. Last year approximately 400 youth took part in the program.
