Hot Wheels Designer Larry Wood comes to Pebble Beach

FARTWORK BY HOT WHEELS DESIGNER LARRY WOOD COMES TO PEBBLE BEACH

Noted Hot Wheels® Chief Designer and Featured Guest Artist Larry Wood Unveils Selection of Original Hot Wheels® Drawings at Automotive Fine Arts Society Show– August 17, 2003

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (July 2003) – Each year the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance features special exhibits of vehicles created by notable designers like Pininfarina, Bertone, or Giugiaro. This year, for the first time in its 53-year history, the prestigio
us concours plays host to the most prolific automotive designer in the world.

Larry Wood, Mattel’s chief designer of Hot Wheels® cars since 1969, creates more cars and trucks in a single year than most automotive designers create in a lifetime. For 2003, which marks the 35th anniversary of Hot Wheels® cars, Wood – who has designed e
verything from wild concepts to sublime miniatures of automotive classics – brings his original drawings and automotive creations to Pebble Beach as part of the event’s Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS) display on August 17. Wood’s participation at this
year’s exhibit will showcase concept sketches and designs for some of his most famous miniature auto creations.

“I’m excited to be a part of the world’s best concours and to be able to showcase my drawings as a member of the Automotive Fine Arts Society, in a setting where collector cars of all types are appreciated and cherished by enthusiasts,” says Wood. “Many of
the enthusiasts and car collectors who will visit the Automotive Fine Arts Society display at Pebble Beach started out collecting Hot Wheels® cars. Just like the great cars that will be judged on The Green on Sunday, Hot Wheels® designs evoke a certain pa
ssion among collectors and possess an attitude of speed, power and performance.”

For nearly 35 years, Wood’s designs have enthralled young and old alike with dazzling die-cast cars and trucks that sparked the imagination and created a special niche in the world’s car culture. From 1:64-scale to 1:18-scale die-cast versions, he has desi
gned low-slung classic coupes, high-riding pickups and some of the most famous Hot Wheels® creations ever.

The 53rd annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, scheduled for August 17, 2003, at the Lodge at Pebble Beach on California’s Monterey peninsula, will showcase the magnificent vehicles of Ettore Bugatti and celebrate the centennial anniversaries of the For
d Motor Company and General Motors’ Buick Division. There will be a class for unique “racing hot rods” and other special exhibits will feature some of the outstanding concepts and production cars by Giorgio Giugiaro of Giugiaro Italdesign.

Tickets for the weekend event are $100.00, with children under 12 admitted free of charge. Tickets may only be purchased in advance of the event. Each ticket includes an event program, parking and a shuttle ride to and from the show field. To order ticket
