Southeast Press to Host 'Dream Rides' Student Design Competition in Miami

MIAMI, Aug. 26, 2003 -- The South East Automotive Media Organization (SEAMO), in cooperation with Miami's Community Newspapers and the South Florida International Auto Show (SFIAS), today announced a call for entries for the first annual Dream Rides - Student Concept Vehicle Design Competition.

The design competition is open to all students enrolled in grades 9-12 in either public or private high schools in Miami-Dade County.

Entries from the young designers will illustrate what the future of automotive transportation is likely to bring, whether it's a new spin on the popular racing-inspired compact performance theme, a long-range look into sustainable environmentally-friendly commuter transportation, or applying a South Beach Art Deco look to the emerging retro-hotrod trend.

Many of the world's finest auto manufacturers have signed on as participating sponsors in the Dream Rides competition, including General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota and Volvo. The industry's best and brightest designers will attend the event and serve on a panel of judges to choose the top eight Dream Rides entries.

A total of $8,500 in scholarship money will be awarded to the winning designers, including $3,000 to the top student design; $2,000 for the second highest scoring design; and $1,000 for the third highest scoring design. Five honorable mention awards of $500 each will also be presented.

All entries will be displayed as part of a VIP reception at the South Florida International Auto Show on Thursday, November 6th. The winners will be announced at the annual SFIAS press luncheon on Friday, November 7th.
