Toyota Sells One-Millionth Certified Used Vehicle

PHOENIX, Sept. 18 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced the sale of its one-millionth Toyota Certified Used Vehicle (TCUV), making Toyota the first single-line manufacturer to reach the million-vehicle sales mark with a certified used car program.

A 2002 Toyota Camry was the one-millionth TCUV sold. Toyota celebrated the one-millionth milestone by presenting a refund check today for the amount of the Toyota certified used Camry to Jeff and Tiffany Borden of Phoenix, Ariz., who purchased the car from Camelback Toyota in Phoenix.

"In addition to the refund, the couple also will receive a 100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty from Toyota Financial Services (TFS) and three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance at any Toyota dealership," said John O'Malley, General Manager of Camelback Toyota.

Toyota also is making a matching cash donation of more than $22,000 to the local Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix. "Toyota is making a lot of people very happy, not only the Borden family, but also the 17,000 children the Boys & Girls Clubs serve every year," said Amy Gibbons, President and Executive Director, Boys & Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix.

The Toyota Certified Used Vehicle program has been an industry leader since its inception in January 1996 and Toyota is the number-one selling certified used vehicle in America for a single-line make.

All 1998-2003 model-year Toyota vehicles with less than 65,000 miles are eligible for the certified program. For each vehicle, the certification process begins with a check of its Vehicle History Report. Each vehicle then receives a rigorous 160-point quality assurance inspection of all mechanical, appearance and safety features prior to sale. All Toyota Certified Used Vehicles are backed by a 6-year/100,000-mile factory powertrain warranty.
