Light Trucks Shatter Best-Ever September Sales Performance
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 1 -- Led by a 17.0 percent increase in CR-V and record September light truck sales, total American Honda September vehicle sales of 106,652 were up 0.9 percent from last year based on a daily selling rate, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. announced today. Model year sales for 2003 have also set a new record of 1,353,438, an increase of 9.4 percent compared to 1,236,374 from the previous 2002 record.
American Honda light truck September sales were up 28.0 percent to 41,982. The Honda CR-V had its best-ever September sales month, selling 11,337 units. In addition, the Honda Pilot had its best-ever September with 9,038 units sold and the all-new Honda Element continued its strong sales momentum with 5,430 units. Strong model year Odyssey sales of 161,006 and a 17.2 percent increase in MDX sales further contributed to American Honda's record total light truck sales. September sales marked a record eleven out of twelve months of all-time record sales for both American Honda and the Honda Division, based on model year sales.
"Despite a challenging economic climate and an uncertain political situation in the California market, consumers continue to flock to the new car market," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "We're on track for a record year with minimal incentive spending based on the strength of our product lineup."
Led by the MDX luxury SUV, Acura sold 12,873 units and was up 2.8 percent. The Acura MDX posted sales of 4,589 this past month, surpassing last September's record by 17.2 percent.
Year-to-date total American Honda sales of 1,051,371 are up 11.2 percent from last year's record setting pace.
