Gas Prices Shed September Increases, According to AAA Chicago

AURORA, Ill., Oct. 15, 2003 -- According to AAA Chicago's most recent fuel gauge report, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois now averages $1.62 per gallon, which is down 11 cents from this time last month and up 7 cents from last year's prices. In northern Indiana, gas prices now average $1.48, which is down 18 cents from last month an up 9 cents from last year's prices.

In Cook County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $1.74 per gallon, which is down 13 cents from last month and up 14 cents from last year.

In DuPage County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $1.63 per gallon, 18 cents lower than September prices and 7 cents higher than last year.

In Kane County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.62 per gallon, 16 cents lower than September prices and 8 cents higher than last year.

In Lake County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.63 per gallon, 16 cents lower than September prices and 12 cents higher than last year.

In McHenry County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.63 per gallon, 16 cents lower than September prices and 14 cents higher than last year.

In Will County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.65 per gallon, 15 cents lower than September prices and 15 cents higher than last year.

"Gas prices overall have declined to levels that were recorded towards the beginning of summer," said AAA Chicago spokesman Steve Nolan. "However, crude oil prices still remain relatively high and could prevent gas prices from retreating much further as we head into the winter."
