Seven-Year-Old among Top 10 Heroes in the Nation in Volvo for Life Awards Program

NEW YORK--Dec. 23, 2003--

Nominations for more heroes accepted at www.volvoforlifeawards.com through Jan. 16, 2004; Volvo to provide $1 million in contributions

It's New Year's resolution time, and if you're feeling compelled to give more of your time, talent or money to others, follow the lead of Alexandra Scott of Wynnewood, Pa.

Scott, a seven-year-old living with cancer, has been selling cups of lemonade for three years to raise more than $175,000 for pediatric-cancer research and treatment. Scott's success also has inspired nearly 100 children to have "Alex's Lemonade Stand" fundraisers across the nation in 2004.

Scott was named one of the Top 10 heroes in the nation in last year's Volvo for life Awards, the nation's largest search for and celebration of everyday heroes. Each year, the program recognizes hometown heroes across the nation with more than $1 million in contributions.

To read more inspiring stories of children like Scott -- or to nominate a child or adult in your hometown whose generosity, kindness or courage deserves recognition -- visit www.volvoforlifeawards.com.

About the Volvo for life Awards

In March, Volvo will select 100 semi-finalists, who will receive a framed Certificate of Merit to honor their accomplishments. From those 100 semi-finalists, Volvo will select the top three finalists in three categories: Safety, Quality of Life and Environment.

From these finalists, celebrity judges -- including Hank Aaron, Bill Bradley, Caroline Kennedy, Maya Lin, Paul Newman, Sally Ride and Eunice Kennedy Shriver -- will name one winner for each of the three categories; they will each receive $50,000 to be donated to the charities of their choice. The remaining six finalists will each receive a $10,000 charitable donation. The three category winners will be flown to New York on April 7, 2004, to be honored at the Volvo for Life Awards Ceremony in Times Square Studios Ltd, where an overall winner will be named and presented with a Volvo car every three years for the rest of his or her life.
