2004 Detroit Auto Show: DaimlerChrysler Outlines 'Energy for the Future'

Display demonstrates plans for clean vehicles and clean fuels

DETROIT, Jan. 3 -- DaimlerChrysler will outline its plan for clean vehicles and clean fuels of the future in an "Energy for the Future" display during press days at the 2004 North American International Auto Show in Detroit January 4-6.

The display will comprise a series of informational stands along a carpeted walkway adjacent to the Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler and Dodge exhibits at the Cobo Center.

The displays will demonstrate DaimlerChrysler's broad-based approach to clean, fuel efficient vehicles, encompassing:

  * The top-selling GEM neighborhood electric vehicles.
  * Continued improvements in the internal combustion engine (ICE) which
    have given DaimlerChrysler the best light truck fuel economy among
    full-line manufacturers.
  * Jeep(R) Liberty and Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles equipped with fuel
    efficient diesel engines to be marketed in the United States in 2004.
  * The company's first hybrid electric vehicles, the Dodge Ram pickup and
    the Orion passenger buses.
  * Marketing of 60 fuel cell passenger cars and 30 Citaro fuel cell buses
    as well as fuel cell-powered Sprinter vans to customers in the United
    States, Europe and Asia.

In addition, DaimlerChrysler is promoting the worldwide adoption of clean fuels and participates in research partnerships to develop renewable fuels that would further reduce reliance on fossil fuels for transportation.

"At DaimlerChrysler, we are not focusing on a single technology," said Mark Chernoby, Vice President - Advance Vehicle Engineering at the Chrysler Group. "All of these technologies -- gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, electric vehicles, hybrids, and fuel cells -- will play a role in various market segments as we work to reduce even further the environmental impact of the automobile."

Fuel cell, ICE, hybrid electric and electric vehicle technologies will be on display in DaimlerChrysler exhibits during the Detroit show.
