Subaru Named Official Vehicle in Partnership With National Brotherhood of Skiers

-- Company to Sponsor Subaru Driven by What's Inside Athlete of the Year Award --

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Jan. 28 -- Subaru of America, Inc., the only car company that features Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as standard equipment on every vehicle in its product line, today announced a new partnership with the National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS), a non-profit organization that identifies, develops, and supports athletes of color who will win international and Olympic winter sports competitions representing the United States.

Under the multi-year partnership, Subaru will be the official vehicle of the NBS, providing the organization with Subaru Outback Wagons that feature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The company will also sponsor the Subaru Driven by What's Inside Athlete of the Year Award, given to an outstanding member of the NBS National Team selected by the NBS Board of Directors for his/her improvement and commitment to the sport. In addition, Subaru will be the presenting sponsor of Picnic on the Hill - part of the NBS national Summit and AMCC events, support NBS regional events, and contribute to the NBS Olympic Scholarship Fund according to the terms set forth in the agreement.

"NBS is an outstanding organization and we are very pleased to announce this partnership," said Rick Crosson, vice president of marketing for Subaru of America, Inc. "Subaru has a long history of supporting ski enthusiasts and the organizations that are important to them."

The NBS hosts year-round activities, with its premiere activities occurring during the winter; one national event - the Summit that includes Picnic on the Hill, regional winter events, and a host of individual club trips.

"NBS provides the opportunity for over 20,000 enthusiasts to enjoy major resorts, various types of entertainment and experience first-hand alpine, snowboard and other winter sports activities, as well as competitions for amateurs and nationally ranked athletes," said Andrea Yowman, president, NBS. "We are committed to increasing participation in winter sports by providing the highest quality, lowest cost access to winter sports and entertainment for adults and youth throughout the United States and we are extremely pleased to be working so closely with Subaru to help us achieve these goals."

NBS is composed of 84 member clubs, of predominantly African American descent, organized in four regions, Rocky Mountain, Midwest, Eastern and Western. Regional teams are part of the NBS Ski Team (NBSST) system and serve, with the member clubs, as part of the development and support of designated athletes.

Subaru Commitment to the Outdoors

When a Subaru is seen driving down the road or at the trailhead, chances are it will be loaded with a kayak, canoe, mountain bike, skis or snowboard. That's because Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive provides drivers with superior performance in all types of conditions - essential for transporting outdoor sports enthusiasts to the river, the mountains and those "off the beaten path" destinations with safety and confidence. Together with its partners, Subaru hosts hundreds of outdoor events each year from coast to coast. This approach helps Subaru learn more about its customers' interests, and enables the company to demonstrate how Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive can complement their active lifestyles. Because of this commitment, many refer to Subaru as the official vehicle of the outdoors.
