Volvo Cars Continues Sales Growth to Begin New Year
... U.S. Sales Are Up 11.6 Percent in January Following Record 2003
IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 3 -- Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) reports sales continue to expand building on last year's record success. Volvo recorded January sales up 11.6 percent compared to the same period in 2003. There were 10,326 units sold in the United States, which marks the fifteenth consecutive monthly increase, dating back to the introduction of Volvo's first SUV, the award-winning XC90.
"We are building momentum, and this will accelerate with the all-new S40," said Vic Doolan, VCNA President and CEO. "We are continually looking ahead, and despite a competitive market, we see good things. With its class-leading safety, great design, and dynamic performance, the all-new S40 sedan has been received with very favorable reviews, and we feel Volvo again is redefining a segment."
The all-new Volvo S40 will arrive to showrooms in March, with the V50 wagon due around mid-year. The S40 is already an award-winner, taking the coveted title of "El Mejor Auto de Ano 2004" (2004 'Car of the Year') in Automundo magazine.
For the current Volvo line up, sales performance has increased in both the car and the light truck segments. The XCs (XC90 and XC70) were up 20.6 percent year over year, while the rest of the Volvo model line-up increased 7.5 percent compared to the same period.
For the month, Volvo sales in North America (United States and Puerto Rico, Canada, and Mexico) were up 11.3 percent, with a total of 11,114 cars sold.
Sales in Canada were up slightly at 3.1 percent in January, while in Mexico sales increased by 19.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
