AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Mixed Movement at the Gas Pumps

HOUSTON--Feb. 6, 2004--There is mixed movement at the gasoline pumps, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.

Currently, the Texas average for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline is $1.55 - the same as last week's average, but 12 cents more than last month's average of $1.43. Corpus Christi and San Antonio tied for the least expensive fuel at $1.51 on average. Both showed decreases of under two cents. The Galveston - Texas City area posted the biggest increase on the list, although a very small one. Galveston gained a little more than a penny for an average of $1.55 per gallon. Dallas remains at the top of the list at $1.57 per gallon - up less than a penny.

"The statewide average price has remained at $1.55 a gallon for a second straight week," said Rose Rougeau of AAA Texas. "Whether this represents a leveling off of gas prices before they begin to move lower or a temporary lull before another price increase remains to be seen."
