Cosmo Oil Leases First Unit of Nissan's X-TRAIL FCV
Tokyo, Japan, Mar. 29, 2004 - (JCN Newswire) - Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd.
today announced that it has leased the first unit of the X-TRAIL
FCV fuel cell vehicle manufactured by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd .
Nissan delivered the vehicle to Cosmo Oil today in a ceremony held at
the JHFC Yokohama-Daikoku Hydrogen Station.
Cosmo Oil intends to use the hydrogen-powered X-TRAIL FCV to obtain
useful information about how the hydrogen supply infrastructure should
be configured. The company will utilize that information in developing
and implementing hydrogen supply technologies and supply facilities from
the standpoint of customers who use hydrogen energy.
As a comprehensive energy company, Cosmo Oil has consistently developed
its energy supply business to match customers' needs that continually
change with the times. Moreover, with the aim of being an
environmentally advanced company, Cosmo Oil is engaged in the
development and supply of clean energy sources as part of its efforts to
reduce the impact on the global environment and to promote environmental
protection.
Nissan has been moving ahead with comprehensive environmental protection
efforts, encompassing products, technologies and recycling activities,
under the Nissan Green Program 2005, a medium-term environmental action
plan. Nissan is engaged in wide-ranging research and development
activities aimed at popularizing the use of FCVs and has been conducting
public-road driving tests in Japan since 2002 using prototype FCVs
approved by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The
vehicle delivered to Cosmo Oil today is the first Nissan FCV to be
leased to a customer.
Both Cosmo Oil and Nissan are participating in the Japan Hydrogen & Fuel
Cell Demonstration (JHFC) Project* and are developing and accumulating
technologies for building a hydrogen energy society in the future. The
two companies intend to broaden their relationship beyond that of the
marketer and user of FCVs and undertake joint research and development
work on hydrogen fueling, representing the interface between hydrogen
supply and use.
*Japan Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Demonstration (JHFC) Project
This project consists of the Demonstration Study of Hydrogen Fueling
Facilities for Fuel Cell Vehicles, being conducted by the Engineering
Advancement Association of Japan, and the Fuel Cell Demonstration
Program, being conducted by the Japan Automobile Research Institute.
These demonstration activities are included in a support project for
"empirical and other research on solid high-polymer fuel cell systems"
sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
