Gas Prices Highest in Three Years, According to AAA Chicago

AURORA, Ill., April 14 -- According to AAA Chicago's most recent fuel gauge report, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Illinois now averages $1.82 per gallon, which is up 10 cents from this time last month and up 27 cents from last year's prices. Prices have not been at these levels since September 11, 2001. In northern Indiana, gas prices now average $1.761, which is down 12 cents from last month and down 26 cents from last year's prices.

In Cook County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $1.93 per gallon, which is up 11 cents from last month's prices and up 27 cents from last year.

In DuPage County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline now averages $1.85 per gallon, 12 cents higher than March prices and 27 cents higher than last year.

In Kane County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.83 per gallon, 14 cents higher than March prices and 29 cents higher than last year's prices.

In Lake County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.83 per gallon, 13 cents higher than March prices and 29 cents higher than last year.

In McHenry County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.83 per gallon, 9 cents higher than March prices and 32 cents higher than last year.

In Will County, self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averages $1.84 per gallon, 16 cents higher than March prices and 32 cents higher than last year.

"Gas prices remain relatively high as a result of the continued high cost of crude oil, which has remained above $37 a barrel," said AAA Chicago spokesman Steve Nolan. "The high cost of crude oil on top of the refineries switch over to the production of reformulated gasoline has pushed gas prices to levels that we haven't seen since September 11th."

AAA Chicago offers automotive, travel, insurance and financial services. It is part of The Auto Club Group (ACG), the largest affiliation of AAA clubs in the Midwest, with 4.1 million members in eight states.
