Subaru Announces Pricing on 2005 Legacy and Outback Models

Most Powerful, Best-Handling, Best-Equipped Versions of the Legacy and Outback Models Ever Offered Arrive in Dealer Showrooms in May

CHERRY HILL, N.J., April 21 -- Subaru of America, Inc., the only car company that features symmetrical all-wheel drive as standard equipment on every vehicle in its product line, today announces the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for 2005 model year Legacy and Outback models that will arrive in dealer showrooms beginning in late May.

Legacy 2.5 i Sedan and Wagon

The MSRP for the Legacy 2.5 i sedan and wagon with manual transmission starts at a very competitive $20,995 and $21,995, respectively. The 2.5 i sedan and wagon have a longer wheelbase and overall length than their predecessors. The 2.5 i features standard 16-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry with security system, body color ground effects, four beam headlights and electronic throttle control (ETC). Standard safety equipment on all Legacy models has been significantly upgraded to include dual-stage deployment driver and passenger front air bags (SRS), front seat side-impact air bags (SRS) and side curtain air bags (SRS). The optional four-speed automatic transmission with the integrated SPORTSHIFT(TM) feature adds $1,000 to the MSRP.

Legacy 2.5 i Limited Sedan and Wagon

For customers looking for a higher level of comfort and amenities at an attractive price, we are also pleased to offer a Limited version of the 2.5 i sedan and wagon. The 2.5 i Limited sedan and wagon will feature a power moonroof (dual glass-to-glass on wagon), leather-trimmed upholstery, AM/FM stereo with six-disc in-dash CD changer with six speakers, eight-way power driver's seat, projector beam halogen fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. In addition, the 2.5 i Limited will come standard with an All-Weather Package featuring four stage heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer. The MSRP for the 2.5 i Limited sedan and wagon with manual transmission starts at $24,445 and $25,645, respectively.

Legacy 2.5 GT Sedan and Wagon

Subaru added serious performance to the 2005 Legacy model lineup. All 2.5 GT models are equipped with a 2.5-liter DOHC intercooled turbocharged engine that generates an incredible 250 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 250 lb.-ft of torque at 3,600 RPM, making this the most powerful Legacy ever offered in the US market. In addition, the 2.5 GT features 17-inch alloy wheels and electroluminescent instrumentation. The MSRP of the 2.5 GT sedan and wagon with manual transmission starts at $25,995 and $26,995, respectively. The 2.5 GT Limited sedan and wagon feature the following upgrades: perforated leather- trimmed upholstery (taupe or charcoal colors), eight-way power driver's seat with manual adjustable lumbar support, four-way power passenger's seat with manual adjustable lumbar support and power moonroof (dual glass-to-glass on wagon). The MSRP for the 2.5 GT Limited sedan and wagon with manual transmission is $28,495 and $29,695, respectively. The all-new optional 5- speed automatic transmission with SPORTSHIFT(TM) adds $1200 to the MSRP.

Outback Sedan and Wagon

With a higher level of luxury and premium appointments both inside and out, the new Outback models will be available in the following trim levels for the 2005 model year: 2.5 i, 2.5 i Limited, 2.5 XT, 2.5 XT Limited, 3.0 R L.L.Bean Edition, 3.0 R VDC Limited, 3.0 R Sedan. Standard safety equipment on all Outback models has been significantly upgraded to include dual-stage deployment driver and passenger front air bags (SRS), front seat side-impact air bags (SRS) and side curtain air bags (SRS). For 2005, the Outback adds more shoulder room and increased ground clearance. The new Outback also boasts a stiffer body structure, longer wheelbase, a wider track, larger wheels and tires on the six-cylinder models, and a lower engine position that helps make it the most stable and sure-footed Outback ever. Further enhancements such as an aluminum-alloy hood and other lightweight materials have reduced the overall weight of the new Outback, compared to the 2004 model, by as much as 180 lbs. The fuel economy for the Outback model line has also been improved, in fact the 2.5 i equipped with manual transmission gets 23 M.P.G. city and 28 M.P.G. highway.

Outback 2.5 i and Outback 2.5 i Limited

The Outback 2.5 i features an eight-way power driver's seat, a rear gate spoiler, remote keyless entry with security system, and electronic throttle control (ETC), as just a few of the new standard equipment items. The Outback 2.5 i starts at $23,995 (manual transmission). Starting at $26,995, the Outback 2.5 i Limited features a power moonroof (dual glass-to-glass on wagon), leather-trimmed upholstery, AM/FM stereo with 6-disc in-dash CD changer with six speakers, halogen fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. In addition, the 2.5 i Limited will come standard with an All-Weather Package featuring four-stage heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Outback 2.5 XT

The Outback 2.5 XT is the ultimate performance crossover wagon for customers that have expressed the desire for more power and enhanced off-road capability. The 2.5 XT utilizes the same 2.5 liter DOHC intercooled and turbocharged engine as the Legacy 2.5 GT, delivering the same 250 horsepower at 6,000 RPM. The 2.5 XT features raised ground clearance for better off-road capability, 17-inch alloy wheels for improved handling and performance, and will also be available in a Limited version. The Outback 2.5 XT has a starting MSRP of $27,995 (manual transmission), while the 2.5 XT Limited (manual transmission) is priced at $30,695. The all-new optional 5-speed automatic transmission with SPORTSHIFT(TM) adds $1200 to the MSRP.

Outback 3.0 R Models

The 3.0-liter H6 engine will be available in the Outback 3.0 R sedan, the 3.0 R L.L.Bean Edition wagon and 3.0 R VDC Limited wagon. The 3.0 H6 engine provides 250 horsepower at 6,600 RPM, an 18 percent increase over the 2004 H6 models. The 3.0 R model features 17-inch alloy wheels for improved handling and performance and starts at $30,995 (standard five-speed automatic transmission). The 3.0 R LL Bean Edition has a starting MSRP of $32,195 (standard five-speed automatic transmission).

Destination and delivery charges are $575 for all 2005 model year vehicles (Alaska deliveries are $725). Legacy and Outback four-cylinder models (excluding turbo) that meet Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) requirements will be available to dealers in California, New England States, New York and some bordering states. The base MSRP of the PZEV models are $200 higher than the federal specification model.
