TMMK Demonstrates Environmental Initiatives At The Kentucky State Fair

August 18, 2004 -- Louisville, KY -- The Kentucky State Fair will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year with events scheduled from August 19 - 29 at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center in Louisville. Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) will sponsor an exhibit at the fair for the 15th consecutive year. The theme for this year's Toyota exhibit is "Kentucky Driven," which will feature TMMK's commitment to Kentucky as the "driving force" behind its philanthropy, diversity, business, community, educational and environmental support and growth.

The state fair exhibit as well as Toyota's exhibit at the EXPO 2005 AICHI, JAPAN will specifically demonstrate several of TMMK's environmental initiatives built around the theme of RENEW, REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE.

"The State Fair is a great Kentucky tradition and gives our company an opportunity to demonstrate and discuss with thousands of people, some of the important environmental activities and goals that Toyota has reached," stated Kim Menke, Manager of Community Relations at TMMK. "I think it is important for people to understand Toyota's philosophy of building vehicles that are friendly to the environment, and that we build them with processes that are environmentally sound too."

TMMK is the sponsor of the Toyota Living Stream, an exhibit at the Salato Wildlife Education Center, which is operated by the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife. The Georgetown plant is also involved with programs at the Louisville Zoo, National Public Lands Day, and created its own volunteer program for TMMK team members known as Volunteers-In-Place (VIP).

Part of the exhibit will also feature two Toyota vehicles, the Solara Convertible, which is manufactured exclusively at TMMK, and the Prius, the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle that was named the 2004 North American Car of the Year.

TMMK is Toyota's largest North American manufacturing facility with a production capacity of 500,000 vehicles and engines a year.
