3 South Korean Carmakers to Conduct Recall

Seoul Na Jeong-ju writing for the Korea Times reported that three South Korean auto firms will a conduct recall of four locally built vehicles, the Ministry of Construction and Transportation said Monday.

Renault Samsung Motors, the country's fourth largest automobile manufacturer, was ordered to onduct a recall of 11,553 units of SM5 sedans, produced between June 20 and Oct. 8, after it was found they have faulty windshield wipers, the ministry said.

Owners of the recalled vehicles can get free repair of the fault over the next year at Renault Samsung dealerships and service centers nationwide.

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, the third largest, was also ordered to recall 564 Damas and Labo minivans, built between Oct. 25, 2003 and Nov. 17 this year, for having faulty brake shoes.

A total 255 BM090 buses, manufactured by Daewoo Bus Corp. between Dec. 16, 2002 and June 30 this year, are also being recalled to have the seat belt refitted, the ministry said.

Owners of the recalled GM Daewoo vehicles can receive free repair of the fault until June 19, 2006 and Daewoo buses until June 20 that year, it said.
