AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Holiday Brings Lower Gas Prices
IRVING, Texas--Dec. 2, 2004--Texas motorists continue to enjoy declining prices at the pump, but 2004 will still set the record for the highest Christmas gasoline prices, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.The statewide average for a gallon of regular self-serve gasoline fell four cents to $1.698. Last year, the Texas average was 29.3 cents less at $1.405 a gallon.
"Although we've experienced eight consecutive weeks of lower gasoline prices, this is the first time we've seen gasoline prices this high at Christmas time," said AAA Texas spokesperson Rose Rougeau. "We expect the lower price trend to last for the next week or so. However, for the past three years, New Year's Day has brought with it new rounds of price hikes. It's likely that may happen again for 2005."
The national average for regular self-serve gasoline dropped two pennies to $1.799 a gallon.
