Jewish Bikers Converge on Capitol at Holocaust Memorial in Memoriam of Yom Hashoa and the 60th Anniversary of the Holocaust May 6th, 2005

What:       International Ride of Jewish Motorcyclists descend upon
            Washington, D.C., from 14 States and Toronto, Canada to 
            the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Where:      From Miami to Michigan, Pittsburgh, Chicago and Detroit 
            and 9 states in-between, Jewish Bikers from across 
            North America and Canada will meet at select cities to 
            meet and ride to the United States Holocaust Memorial in 
            Washington, D.C., for an international gathering.

Why:        In Memoriam of Yom Hashoa, Friday, May 6th, the global 
            day of recognition of the Holocaust. This year marks the 
            60th anniversary of the Holocaust.

When:       The Week of May 1st - May 6th Bikers from across the 
            country meet at select cities and ride to Washington D.C.

Miami Beach, Florida -- Sunday, May 1st at Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial, Florida, King David Bikers commence gathering at 8:00 AM; Formal "launch" ceremony with remarks at 9:30 AM - 9:45 AM by Florida Senator Ron Klein, Israel General Consul, Yitzchak Ben Gad, Ex. Director of the Miami Beach Holocaust Memorial, Avi Mizrahi. Group departs 10:30 to commence 1,100 mile pilgrimage.

Toronto, Canada -- Wednesday, May 4th - Yidden on Wheels Motorcycle Touring Group (YOW) meet at the Holocaust Memorial at Earl Bales Park in Toronto at 7:00 A.M. Presentation Ceremony at 7:00 AM - 20 minutes. Speakers -- Prof. Adam Fuerstenberg, Dir, Holocaust Center of Toronto, Mr. Ya'acov Brosh, Consul General of Israel in Toronto, Mr. Lou Van Delman, Ex. Dir, Jewish War Veterans of Canada, Stephen Stein reads greetings from the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem. Group departs at 7:30 AM sharp to commence 500-mile pilgrimage.

Chicago, Ill. - Chicago, IL-Bikers leaving from Chicago Monday, May 2 - Temple Emanuel Congregation parking lot; 5959 N. Pittsburgh, PA - Thursday, May 5th -- A dozen bikers/ 14 people, plus one carload of people are meeting at 12:00 PM, Temple David, 4415 Northern Pike, Monroeville , PA, 15146 for a "bike blessing" ceremony by Rabbi Rheins and Rabbi Novitsky. The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh is providing an official letter of "greetings and representation" of this group to be delivered in D.C. along with a similar letter provided by National Hadassah. Miami, Fla...During the week of May 1st, Jewish motorcycle enthusiasts from around the country - 14 states - some as part of the Jewish Motorcyclists Alliance, (JMA), a loosely knit association of the most well-known and best-organized Jewish Motorcycle clubs in the United States and Canada, representing more than 500 motorcycle enthusiasts, along with independent riders from around the nation will simultaneously make a thousands-mile pilgrimage for a first-ever international motorcycle event - "Ride to Remember," in a demonstration of solidarity, respect and honor marking the 60th anniversary of the holocaust. Along the way, these various groups of bikers will be picking up other riders in select cities to join the ride to Washington, D.C.

South/Florida - Miami -- Monday, May 2nd -- King David Bikers will be met at the border of Charlotte, NC by a motorcycle entourage led by Ken Lipack, President and Owner of Charlotte Harley Davidson, who will escort the entire motorcycle group back to his dealership for a formal ceremony attended by this eclectic group of bikers as well as local religious officials. Bikers from Atlanta will be meeting this group and joining the journey northward, meeting other bikers from Pittsburgh in Roanoke, VA.

Toronto, CA -- Wednesday, May 4th -- Yidden on Wheels Motorcycle Touring Group (YOWs) will meet at the Holocaust Memorial in Toronto on Wednesday, May 4th and commence their 500-mile pilgrimage south. There will be an overnight stop in Harrisburg, PA, on Wednesday. This original group of nearly 30 bikers will meet another dozen bikers on Thursday, May 5th, from The Tribe for a joint tour of the Harley Davidson factory in York, PA; from there they ride to D.C. for the group dinner meeting.

New Jersey -- Thursday, May 5th - Meeting at noon and departing at 12:30 on Thursday, Hillel's Angels from Northern New Jersey will congregate at the Vince Lombardi Rest Area on the New Jersey Turnpike with 26 bikes/ 28 people. They will stop at the Molly Pitcher Rest Area further down the Turnpike to join with 12 bikes from the Chai Riders, representing the greater New York City area. At approximately 2:00 p.m., the combined group will depart for Mike's Famous Harley Davidson in DE to meet with more bikers from the Northern contingency and Toronto. Approximately 70 bikes will then combine and continue to make the pilgrimage to Washington, D.C.

International Gathering of Bikers -- Thursday Evening, May 4th -- all the Jewish clubs as well as all bikers from around the country will be meeting for the first annual confab of Jewish Bikers from for a Glatt Kosher catered Chinese buffet in Falls Church, Va. commencing at 8:00 PM.

Friday, May 6th -- The Tribe, from the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, will be meeting at Patriot Harley Davidson, 9739 Lee Highway, Fairfax VA, 22031, at 8:00 AM leaving as a group at 9:00 AM for the ride to East Coast HD to meet the entire group.

Bike Staging - Friday, May 6th, the world's global recognition day of the Holocaust, from 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM, motorcyclists from all over the country will meet in a staging area at East Coast Harley Davidson - 17975 Main Street, Dumfries, VA 22026 (703) 221-6855, located about 25 miles outside of Washington. At approx. 11:30 AM all bikers will depart and ride as a group to the National Holocaust Memorial.

Bike Rally - Friday, May 6th - International Gathering of Bikers From Across the U.S. & Canada ride in to D.C. and meet at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. At 11:00 AM hundreds of bikers will leave the East Coast Harley Davidson dealership and make the 25 mile ride into Washington, D.C. to arrive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Once there, by approximately 12:00 PM, all bikes will park directly across the street from the Memorial on the Rugby Field. The arrival will be met by official greeting and ceremony by officials of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum along with other speeches. Bike participants then have entry to the Memorial Museum.

Joining the ride will be Rabbi Zachary Betesh, a/k/a Rabbi Zig Zag, the "spiritual leader of King David Bikers" who will be bringing with him a recently acquired "Safer Torah" that was written in Czechoslovakia in 1929 and survived the Nazi Holocaust. This Safer Torah will be strapped to the front of the Rabbi's "mitzvah motorcycle" and will be brought to the Holocaust Memorial and read on Shabbat Yom Hashoa on May 7, 2005 at the Friends of Lubavitch, Chabad Synagogue on Dupont Circle.

Charity and Fundraising

The ride will have a registration fee of $30. Proceeds, less expenses of the event, will be donated to the Holocaust Memorial Museum and to the Friends of the Israeli Defense Force.
