AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; R-E-L-I-E-F at the Pumps
IRVING, Texas--May 6, 2005--Motorists are starting to see relief at the pumps as gasoline prices begin to fall, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.In Texas, the current average is $2.118 a gallon - a weekly decrease of nearly two cents. The current average still remains 39.9 cents higher than last year's average price of $1.719 a gallon.
Corpus Christi has the lowest average at $2.034 a gallon - down three cents. Dallas has the highest average at $2.151 - that's a decrease of one penny.
"Increasing inventories of crude oil and gasoline in the U.S. have helped drive the price of crude to $50 a barrel this week," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "If the price of crude continues to fall, consumers should see retail gasoline prices drop below $2 a gallon in most Texas cities."
The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.213 a gallon - that's about a two cents drop.
AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch monitors the average price of gasoline at popular destinations for automobile trips.
