Future of Energy-Efficient Clean Diesel Technology for
Transportation Sector on Display
Secretary Bodman to Speak about Role of Fuel-Saving
Technologies in Energy Policy
WHAT: Nearly a dozen advanced technology vehicles ranging from a
hybrid-electric transit bus to a military vehicle all featuring
state-of-the art clean diesel technology will be on display
next week in Washington. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of
Energy's (DOE) 21st Century Truck Partnership, the vehicle
display highlights DOE's efforts to develop more energy-
efficient vehicles for the heavy-duty transportation sector and
reduce our nation's dependence on foreign oil. Diesel's
inherent efficiency helps reduce dependence on foreign oil, and
the development of advanced technologies for diesel trucks and
buses will play a significant role in meeting our nation's
energy and environmental goals.
Media are invited to attend a briefing featuring DOE Secretary
Samuel W. Bodman where he will highlight this unique
partnership between government and industry to develop energy-
efficient technologies for today's transportation sector. He
will also discuss how these technologies play a part in the
president's energy plan.
VEHICLES: Advanced clean diesel technologies will be on display from
Allison, Caterpillar, Cummins, Eaton, International, Oshkosh,
and Volvo. Vehicles were developed in a cooperative effort
between manufacturers and the Department of Energy through the
21st Century Truck Partnership.
WHEN: Tuesday, May 10, 2005
Briefing begins at 1:30 p.m.
Technology Display from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: Loews L'Enfant Plaza Hotel, 480 L'Enfant Plaza, Washington, DC
20024
Vehicles will be displayed in front of the hotel.
*This event is being held in conjunction with the Society of
Automotive Engineers Government and Industry Meeting May 9 -
10, 2005.
WHO: Speakers include Secretary of Energy Bodman and Jeffrey
Holmstead, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Assistant
Administrator for the Office of Air and Radiation. Attendees
include government leaders and staff, policymakers, analysts,
industry partners and manufacturers.
ABOUT: The vehicle display is sponsored by the 21st Century Truck
Partnership and the Diesel Technology Forum.
The 21st Century Truck Partnership is a cooperative effort
between industry and government. The Partnership works to
identify and develop technologies that meet the goals of
improving engine efficiency, reducing emissions, and improving
the safety of trucks and buses.
The Diesel Technology Forum represents companies that
manufacture the three components of modern clean diesel systems
-- advanced engines, cleaner burning fuels, and effective
emissions control devices. For more information about the
Forum, visit http://www.dieselforum.org/.
