BorgWarner Louis Schwitzer Award Candidates Announced

INDIANAPOLIS, May 13, 2005 -- The Indiana Section of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) today announced five candidates for the 39th annual BorgWarner Louis Schwitzer Award, which will be presented May 20 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The award, presented to engineers by engineers, honors early racing pioneer Louis Schwitzer, and acknowledges individuals with the courage and conviction to explore and develop new concepts in racing technology.

The award is sponsored by BorgWarner Inc. and presented by the Indiana Section of SAE. This year's winner will be announced at a news conference at the Indianapolis WorldComplex Media Center at 10 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2005.

Candidates for this year's award are individuals who are responsible for the following technologies:

   * Panoz Chassis Update Kit
   * Chevrolet IRL Engine
   * Delphi Ear Piece Sensor System
   * Honda IRL Engine
   * Team Penske Rear Wing Adjustment System

Each May, SAE members interview candidates and select the winner, who receives a $5,000 check from BorgWarner, as well as a plaque. All winners' names are listed on the BorgWarner Louis Schwitzer pedestal in the Speedway Hall of Fame Museum. Last year's recipients were Yasuhide Sakamoto, Steve Eriksen, Steve Miller, and Steve O'Connor for the Honda HI4R-A engine. Past winners of the BorgWarner Louis Schwitzer Award have included Bruce McLaren, Smokey Yunick, A.J. Foyt, and Parelli Jones.
