AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Texas Gas Prices Move Above $2 a Gallon
IRVING, Texas--June 10, 2005--After five consecutive weeks of declines, retail gasoline prices jumped back above $2 a gallon, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.The statewide average price for regular self-serve increased almost five cents to $2.045 a gallon. A year ago, gas prices averaged $1.898 a gallon.
Corpus Christi has the lowest average at $1.974 a gallon -- eight cents more than last week's average. Dallas motorists are paying even more at $2.064 a gallon -- an increase of nearly three cents.
"Pump prices are now on the upswing after more than a month of lower averages," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "The past week saw the price of crude oil rise above $55 a barrel which indicates the end of lower gas prices for the immediate future."
The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.124 a gallon -- a weekly increase of almost three cents.
