Veteran Alternative Transportation Executive Takes Role as ZAP Starts Production and Distribution of U.S.-Compliant Smart Cars

SANTA ANA, Calif.--June 13, 2005--ZAP (OTCBB:ZAPZ), pioneering the next generation of advanced transportation and energy technologies, announced today along with partner Smart-Automobile LLC that Mr. B. Samra, a prominent automotive manufacturing executive, has been appointed Executive Vice President and Head of Operations to lead the Americanization of the Smart Car from Europe, to ensure smooth ramp up of the full range of manufacturing and distribution activities as ZAP commences the first wave of Smart Car deliveries to dealers in eight U.S. states.

The appointment of Mr. Samra, a former executive of leading automotive and industrial vehicle manufacturing company Taylor-Dunn Manufacturing, is the latest step in ZAP's business strategy to ensure a successful customer experience for American purchasers of the European-made Smart Car. Following the recent approvals by all pertinent U.S. environmental and transportation federal regulatory agencies required to sell the gas-sipping Smart Car in the U.S., ZAP and partner Smart-Automobile LLC have continued to execute their business plan to implement all necessary assembly, production and distribution capacity.

In his new role as Executive Vice President and Head of Operations, Mr. Samra will be responsible for the implementation of manufacturing and quality systems as well as managing the day-to-day operations of the facilities involved in the modification, or "Americanization," of the Smart Car to comply with U.S. Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency standards. Mr. Samra has already stepped into his leadership role at the Santa Ana, Calif. facility where ZAP has the DaimlerChrysler-made Smart Cars converted for sale in the U.S.

Mr. Samra has worked in various roles of management for the past 16 years in manufacturing, operations and marketing with a variety of companies involved in transportation and electronics. He has been recognized as a pioneer in modern day electric vehicles, earning a Clean Air Award and an Advanced Research Projects Association Award while working with Taylor-Dunn Manufacturing, an international manufacturer and distributor of commercial and industrial electric vehicles. From 1991 to 1995 he worked as Vice President of Operations in Anaheim, California, where he helped establish new markets and products for the on-road electric vehicle market segment. From 1995-2000, he served as Vice President of Marketing and Sales. More recently, he has worked as President of Electric Vehicles International in Anderson, Indiana, a manufacturer and distributor of electric and hybrid trucks, buses and trailers.

Mr. Samra's extensive background as a senior marketing and operations management executive includes work in international sales and marketing operations leadership and management, as well as new business development, strategic marketing, planning of quality assurance, service and administration. Mr. Samra also brings ZAP unique experience in international economics through his public service in high-level government relations positions in Latin America. He is fluent in Indian, English and conversational Spanish.

Mr. Samra earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry at Panjab University in India. Through an MBA Extension Course he has received specialized training in Financial Information Statistical Process Control; World Class Manufacturing-Schoenberger Course: Kanban Systems and Reducing Non-Value Added; International Finance- Understanding Currency and World Economics, Macro Indicators. He also has extensive training and literacy in computers.

Early in his career, B. Samra gained experience in the electronics manufacturing industry as an Operations Manager with Flextronics, one of the top manufacturers of printed circuit board assemblies worldwide, and as Director of Quality with A.J. Electronics, a subsidiary of Data Design Laboratories, a leading manufacturing of printed circuit board assemblies.
