Major Sale of Automotive Collectibles Tops 50,000 Items; Sale Benefits National Auto History Collections

DETROIT, June 30 -- Auto buffs, collectors of automotive memorabilia and anyone else interested in acquiring sales literature, advertisements, shop and owners manuals, photographs and automotive materials of all kinds will want to attend The National Automotive History Collection's Duplicates Sale July 30 - August 1, 2005.

The National Automotive History Collection (NAHC), one of the special collections affiliated with the Detroit Public Library, is the most extensive public archive of automotive information in the world. Periodically the Collection's curator, staff, board of trustees and knowledgeable volunteers review the NAHC's one-million-plus documents to set aside duplicates that are then sold to the public to raise funds to add to the NAHC's extensive holdings.

"The NAHC is a tremendous resource to authors, historians, journalists and the general public who have access to the materials collected during more than a century," said NAHC Board Chairman Paul Scupholm. "The sale of duplicates provides us with funding to acquire additional materials and to support the ongoing operations of the Collection. This sale is organized and conducted by volunteer efforts of the friends of the NAHC," Scupholm said. "Every dollar of every purchase goes to benefit the NAHC's collections and services."

The Duplicates Sale of automotive collectibles will be open on July 30 - July 31 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. On Mon., Aug. 1, beginning at noon, there will be an auction sale of all unsold items by lots. Suggested admission is a $10 donation or free of charge to members of the Friends of the NAHC. The sale is held at 801 W. Baltimore Street in Detroit's New Center area.

Free, on-site parking is available. The sale site is located north of the I-94/Ford and east of M-10/Lodge freeways, two blocks south and west of the Fisher Building and former GM headquarters building.
