Mercedes-Benz Adds A 200 TURBO

Stuttgart, July 7, 2005; Mercedes-Benz is adding a high-performance variant to the second-generation A-Class model family.

The new Mercedes-Benz A 200 TURBO offers the performance characteristics of a sports car with its output of 142 kW/193 hp and a maximum speed of 228 km/h.

This compact car with the new high-performance engine will be appearing in the showrooms of company-owned Mercedes-Benz outlets and authorised dealerships from July 2005.

The new Mercedes-Benz A 200 TURBO is the most powerful model in the compact A-Class, and rounds the model range off at the top end. With an output of 142 kW/193 hp, its new, up-to-date lightweight power unit with turbocharging and sodium-cooled exhaust valves is among the most powerful in its displacement class, and generates a maximum torque of 280 Newton metres which remains constant from just 1800 rpm. Accordingly the four-cylinder petrol unit guarantees outstanding performance characteristics.

The A 200 TURBO takes just 7.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill and achieves a maximum speed of 228 km/h, yet its fuel consumption remains comparatively modest at 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres. Like all the models in the A-Class, the new A 200 TURBO is available in a versatile five-door or three-door coupé version.

Buyers of either variant of the A 200 TURBO have a choice between the design and equipment lines Avantgarde and Elegance at no extra cost. Other standard appointments in the new top model include 16-inch light-alloy wheels, the newly developed, sporty six-speed transmission, air conditioning, a multifunction steering wheel, speed-dependent power steering and ESP®. A twin exhaust tailpipe is an unmistakable and eye-catching visual feature.
