'Flying Cars Ready to Take Off' National 'Highway in the Sky' Program Sept. 29

NEW YORK--Aug. 2, 20055, 2005--Ever dream of avoiding traffic jams by commuting to work by plane, or traveling coast-to-coast without the usual airport hassle or delays?

You too can become a commuternaut if you opt to take the high road to travel that "Highway in the Sky" sometime in your current lifetime. That's the word from Jay Carter, Jr., one of today's generation of aviation pioneers now planning that visionary escape to the new reality slated for launch within the next seven to 15 years.

Carter, who is founder, president and CEO, principal designer and chief engineer of Carter Aviation Technologies, Inc., will speak to the New York high-tech communications community on September 29 at the Public Relations Society of America's New York MegaTech Day event at the New York Institute of Technology.

Carter will describe the coming revolution, as well as a world flight record he just broke in June - two months ago. The day-long PRSA-NY event will also feature panels of public relations and marketing professionals, as well as technology news editors and journalists.

As a major step toward that goal, Carter's test pilot, Larry Neal, achieved the breaking of the Mu-1 barrier on June 17, 2005 at 7:40 AM, while flight testing for a U.S. Army contract out of Olney Airport, Texas. In that flight, he achieved a record flight speed of 170 mph for this type of aircraft with a minimum rotor rpm of 107 creating a Mu ratio of 1.02.

Carter's company is working on a slowed-rotor compound aircraft, a vertical takeoff and landing craft that uses its rotor for takeoff and landing, and a small, efficient wing for high-speed flight up to 500 mph.

Carter's flight activities were recently noted on CBS's "60 Minutes" segment, "Flying Cars Ready to Take Off."
